Went to Peter’s last night for a Friends marathon with a bunch of people. Amongst us was a pile of 300 wings. Mmmm…

Keeping this short since I’m totally exhausted from today. (Lunar New Years Eve!) So much cooking and cleaning and laundry and dusting and errands. Cinderelly Cinderelly!

I’ll post something better tomorrow!

Mew!

It’s been almost a year since Alvin left Canada to work in Japan. I’m so proud of him for setting a goal and going through to make sure it got achieved. I’m also incredibly jealous that he’s having the time of his life over there!

Alvin & Chii

Alvin: We’ve grown up together all these years. From novices that couldn’t speak a word of Mandarin and Japanese to being fluent in our respective languages. From picking me up after highschool to texting each other during our university convocation ceremonies. Kareoke in your car. Bubble tea. MGF 101 and the real deal!

This is for you: [CLICK HERE

Miss you so much. But I know you’re doing awesome!

がんばって!

“I wish Alex was here.”

The best evenings are the ones where your original plans get immediately abandoned for impromptu ones. The best memories are made when you are least expecting them.

Last night, I was supposed to head out with my friend Kelvin for coffee and desserts at Apricot Tree in Mississauga. Kelvin and I have been best friends for a very long time and since finishing up school we haven’t had many opportunities to talk or hang out. We were going to catch up on some stuff and just have a relaxing low-key evening.  He picked me up at 9pm and we hopped onto the highway. We were nearing our exit when we passed a sign that said “Niagara Falls” and as a joke he suggested we go. I shrugged and said sure. Next thing I knew, we zoomed by our off-ramp and were on our way to Niagara.

Given how Kelv drives, we made it there in 40 minutes; not bad at all. I have never been to Niagara in the winter before; usually I go in the summer time and spend the day roaming around and seeing all the sights and crowds. It wasn’t as cold as I anticipated.

The Falls looked very different at night time. Unfortunately the winter tourist season was done and the lights were not turned on but I think I liked it better that way. It was peaceful and very natural-looking.

Here are the Horseshoe Falls. There was all this smokey mist floating up into the air, it looked really cool and kind of spooky actually. (Or as Kelvin puts it, that’s what entrance to Hell would look like. *Rolls Eyes* Always so unnecessarily dramatic.)

After freezing our bums off in front of the darkened waterfalls, we headed over to Fallsview Casino. It was my first time there! Despite being Asian, my family was never into gambling or mahjong so they never took us. We are definitely an exception because the entire casino was filled with other gambling Asians! =_=;;;

We each lost $20 and then decided that gambling is stupid. (Although I’m sure if we won, we probably would have thought otherwise…) We tried to get a spot at the poker tables but they were jam packed with people in leather pants, tight chest-baring shirts (for both men and women!) and fake nails (only the women. The Asian men already have naturally long pinky nails. Ewwwww!). I was definitely under dressed compared to everyone else there. I was tired from being at work all day and we were originally only going to get coffee so I just hopped into sweats. I knew I should have worn my black cocktail dress!

It definitely was a lot of fun; I can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard. Ultimately what Kelv and I wanted was a chance to catch up; it didn’t matter if it was sitting in a café or while driving on our random mini road trip. Technically, we did end up getting that coffee. Really late in the evening at a Tim Horton’s in the casino…

We would have crossed to boarder just for the sake of having done so but Kelv didn’t have his car’s original papers with him. Maybe next time. Or I can join you on another one of your random drives to Montreal. (Must not forget to bring Alex next time.)
